Chris Brown's label announced Wednesday (November 4) that the release date for the singer's new album, Graffiti, has been pushed up by one week. The disc will now hit stores December 8 instead of December 15.
The disc is the first effort from Brown since the 20-year-old singer pleaded guilty in June to felony assault in connection with his attack on former girlfriend Rihanna in February. The first single from the disc, "I Can Transform Ya," featuring Lil Wayne and Swizz Beatz, has been slowly climbing up the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the past three weeks, currently residing at #24 and hanging tight at #16 on the Hot R&B Singles chart. The video for the song is at #1 on the iTunes music-videos chart this week.
As part of the slow reveal of the album, Brown tweeted the cover of Graffiti on Monday, revealing a space-themed image of him in body-hugging black pants, leather boots, a black jacket and shades, holding a guitar and sporting a mechanical hand with which he's spray-painting the album's title. Fan reaction to the image, which also includes a series of alien-like cartoons in the corner, has been mixed so far.
While Brown has not yet released the full track list for the album, Trey Songz recently told MTV News that the Polow Da Don-produced joint he recorded for the disc is a "fun record" with a "crazy" concept that the pair cut very quickly. Brown has also released the more contemplative "Crawl" ballad, a song that appears to address his former relationship with Rihanna, with an accompanying Joseph Kahn-directed video that has Brown singing the tune's pleading lyrics in a big-city alley and while standing in a desert.
The singer's Fan Appreciation Tour of small theaters and clubs is slated to kick off November 13 in Houston.
Chris Brown opens up about the February assault and its aftermath in "Chris Brown: The Interview," airing Friday, November 6, at 6 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
